Guest Writer: “What Could’ve/Should’ve Happened With The Next Season Of YJ.”

So, I know there have been mixed feeling about this new season of YJ. New characters, missing characters, new ships, sunk ships, and such...it’s all very hard to take in. And our aftershock has been pretty nasty. But who can blame us? We were all emotionally attached to the characters, and then they hit us with a new team! Of course we’re gonna be angry at first! Half the old team is missing and a popular ship has been sunk! But we also have to remember it was only the first episode. I trust our Guy’s (Greg and Brandon) to explain what happened to/became of SuperMartian, Spitfire, MagicBird, and AquaRocket, and also how Jason was over looked as a Robin and Tim is there, and how Bab's still has the use of her legs while Dick is now Nightwing, and how Mal and Karen joined the team, and...the list goes on and on. But I digress...

Onto what they should've done! I think (And you guys let me know if you agree or have a different idea on this!) that they should've continued with the team, introducing new characters and villains and such, for four seasons and then given us this episode. I know that would have probably been drawn out and complicated and stuff...but honestly? And I don't know about you guys but, I would've loved to see our babies grow into adults! And another thing? I would've loved to see Artemis interact with some old chums back in her bad daddy's girl days. It would've been like saying "Hey guys! Remember the Light from the first season? Oh, you thought we forgot! Hardy-har-har...you silly fans!" (That is not a real adaptation, that was just in my head at the time...) Because a lot can happen in 5 years, as we see with Wally, Artemis, Kaldur, and Roy missing and the SuperMartian ship sunk by Lagoon Boy. And let's face it, some of us (namely me) aren't going to be happy with this season. At least not until we know what happened to our babies. ^.^

So...that's my idea...anyone agree with me? Or am I the only one?

  1. Totally agree with you! I think it would of still been interesting if season picked up after season left off and I don't mean just a 1 min pick up, I mean the whole season. But I'm sure I'll still love the show :).

  2. I agree too. I hope that this season will be at least half as good as season 1. I will continue watching the show with high hopes, hoping they will not be crushed.

When CN initially ordered the second season, they made the unusual move of only ordering 10 episodes at first. Some people have speculated that the reason for the timeskip, in part at least, was because the YJ crew thought that that might be all CN was going to order for the series, so they decided to go for broke.

Of course the order later expanded by 10 more episodes into a 20 episode season, so I wonder if episode 10 will be some kind of mini-finale or something. I'm also fairly confident that the MIA team members will appear over the next few weeks, and if not Greg and Co. might get some interesting feedback at San Diego Comic Con this year (assuming they'll be attending).

  4. I agree. It was too soon and too abrupt. Had they at least given us ONE more season with our babies as youngsters it would have been less of shock and I'm sure the feelings wouldn't have been so mixed. This is something we wanted to see after a couple of seasons, NOT the second.

My slight hope is that the decide to do a "what happened during those five years" season. I mean, I'm pretty sure they had missions. There's huge potential for episodes we could watch. I just hope fans don't stop watching because if we do we might not get a third season!

The time skip really hurts. I love having Tim and Jamie and so on and seeing Zee etc as part of JL, but I love (not)sidekicks and their day to day battles as kids in the field. I feel like I've lost seeing them grow up...ya know? I wanted to be there with them as they did so. I would have been less shocked if it was a smaller jump..like 2ish years? That wouldn't have been so bad. Maybe.

You know what else we missed? Seeing the new team working...like we got Zee and Rocket joining up and then really didn't have like at all get to experience them growing into the group.

I was really excited having a decent amount of girls on the team and then they stole it away...I mean, ya, we've got girls on the team now, but this team doesn't have the same background. They didn't go from being a group of boys who knew each other well (playdate btwn Rob, KF, Kal and Roy...Kon counts too because they were his heroes, the boys saved him and all) This team now weren't a boys' club that then added one girl. Then another. Then another and another. And all the girls, the boys weren't already close friends with them when they joined like the bros with each other. And, the pairing up... Arty and Wally, M'gann and Conner, etc. How did all that effect the team? I feel like all these things make dynamics that needed to be played with and now those opportunities are gone. Just wasted...

The team was broken. They went thru hell. I wanted to see them after that. I wanted to see right after that. After the celebration, what lingered on from that dumping of secrets and then that battle. How that shaped them...

We didn't get to even seen the old new team w/ Kaldur. OMG. He didn't get enough time on screen as leader. I want to see that! I want to see him with all these romances on the team having to decide if it's a problem...if he should deal with it. Or even just a jokey moment where he looks at the team and goes "Forget the Light, the villain here is HORMONES1010101!!!"
    ...
Oh, I want to see the moment where Kaldur lets Dick lead for keeps. The evolution. Dick's a leader now and I'm still thinking of him being a hurt kid who's saying to BC that he doesn't have that crazy Batdrive...

This change hurts. I'm not angry. I love the show. I'm excited. (TIM AND KON ARE ON THE SAME SCREEN. I MUST SQUEE) But...I'm still sad. That's not going to be fixed by whatever they do to fill in the holes in our knowledge of the gap-years...it will never be the same as experiencing their lives first hand...but I think over time it will get better. Because this show is in the hands of great talent...I'll get wrapped up in the new status quo...

Yeah, this post is catharsis. I feel a little better already.
